Still around - day 3 on the ground. Parents still very protective.

Today was windy and I suspect this chick had been blown, or had fallen from the nest. The parents were still feeding it so I laid a plant pot on its side, placed a folded towel in with a container of water at the front entrance and moved the chick in. 

There was some desultory swooping from the parents but it seemed to lack malice. They were clicking their beaks quite some distance from my head. 

A later update - the parents have secreted the young bird in some of the thick shrubbery in our front garden, hopefully it will age quickly and learn to fly soon.

Life's partner has just moved the chick from the roadside back into the garden.
